General Membership Monthly Meetings

This is our monthly event. We have a very active membership who attend our meetings.

Generally, every month we have a speaker complete with a slide show representing their work or the story they are telling. The topics might be marvelous lampworked beads and the artist who made them or how seed beads are made in the Czech Republic. We might hear from seed bead artists who use those little bitty beads to make fabulous necklaces or sculptural pieces. We might see a slide show about the families who make Hill Tribe Silver in Thailand. Around the holidays we have a potluck and make earrings to give to a women's shelter. Very diverse subjects for a very diverse group of folks who enjoy, like, or love beads. Be sure to CLICK HERE for all the meeting details.

The meeting starts at 7:00 pm; however if you come at 6:00 pm, we have free beading lessons, demonstrations and general bead help. Be sure to bring your supplies, beads and questions.

We are always happy to see new faces, so please come join us.

PBS Library

Visit our newly relocated library. For info on where, when and how visit our library page.

PBS Sunday Social

The Sunday Social is a small group of PBS members who want to get together to bead, share ideas, get inspiration, etc. It's also a great way to meet people in the Bead Society and make new friends.

Day: In January '08, we will go back to meeting the FIRST Sunday of each month. The dates are January 6, February 3, March 2, April 6, May 4 & June 1.

Time: 1:00-4:00pm

Place: Beaverton Community Center, 12350 SW 5th St, Beaverton (Corner of 5th St & Hall Blvd in downtown Beaverton - across from the library)

Parking: On west side of building - lot entrance from 5th St

Odds & Ends: Please enter the building through the front Door. You will need to knock, as they don't allow us to keep the door open.

There is no food or drink on the premises, so BYO. There are outlets for plugging in task lights.

We always welcome new members. Hope you can join us!

New Opportunities for PBS Members
at

Art & Elegance in Beads

April 25, 26, & 27, 2008
Oregon Convention Center

Art and Elegance in Beads is right around the corner and there are lots of new, affordable opportunities for PBS members to participate. The first opportunity is the new co-op table. Members can rent a 2-foot wide by 10-inch deep counter space by the main entrance for one day of the three-day show. The cost is only $30. This is a great opportunity for bead artists who have limited time, limited budget and still want to show their work in public. Space is limited to six spaces per day and available on a first come first serve basis. Look for the application in the newsletter and here.

The second opportunity to get your name out at the A&E show is through our new PBS Directory and Resource Guide. The directory will be available to all visitors at the A&E show. Any member can have their business name and contact information included in the directory for free. All you have to do is email your business name and contact information to me at dianemym@aol.com by April 02, 2008. We are also selling business card adds in the directory for $5. Members wishing to have a business card ad should mail their business card, with a check payable to the Portland Bead Society, to Diane Mandaville, PO Box 230871, Tigard, Oregon 97223.

PBS bead store owners and private instructors who would like to have their spring and summer class schedules available for A&E customers at the show should contact our new A&E co-chair, Sandy Mennella-Riegel at Jack of Beads in McMinnville 503.474.0611.

Another wonderful way to let our A&E customers know who you are is to submit copies of articles about you and your work for our PBS notebook that will be proudly displayed at the PBS information counter by the main entrance to the show. This can be an article written by you or about you. Articles may be forward to Sandy Mennella-Riegel or by snail mail at 1201 NE 4th St., McMinnville OR 97128 and must be received no later than March 15, 2008.

As of this writing we have only three 10' by 10' vendor booths available. A special A&E thank you to the thirty-five vendors who signed-up early. For a list of this years vendors go here.

Cheers!
Diane and Sandy
